Interesting Facts about India’s States:  

1. In 1950, Uttar Pradesh was known as the United Provinces. This decision came by combining the territories of Oudh and Agra.

2. On April 1, 1936, the Britishers established Orissa as a distinct province. In the year 1950, Orissa became a state and it was renamed as Odisha in 2011.

3. In 1956, Madhya Pradesh was established and in the year 2000 the state split whereas Chhattisgarh became a separate state.

4. On November 1, 1956, the Mysore State was established; however, the state was renamed as Karnataka in 1973.

5. Did you know that initially Maharashtra was a part of the Bombay Province. On May 1, 1960, this state became independent.

6. Chhattisgarh was divided from a separate portion of Madhya Pradesh, with Raipur becoming its capital city in 2000.
