TN Digital safety for Girls: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has unveiled a special digital safety booklet titled “Agal Vilakku” (Guiding Light) to empower school girls  with the knowledge to navigate the online world safely. This comes at a time when cyberbullying, grooming, stalking and sexual exploitation cases are on the rise among students.

The booklet highlights various online threats such as cyberbullying, tampered photos and unsolicited friend requests. It uses real-life examples to help students recognise danger signs early and respond appropriately. Importantly, it emphasises that even casual online interactions can be harmful if personal information is shared without caution.

A key feature of "Agal Vilakku" is the ten golden rules of safe internet use, including using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links and never sharing sensitive information.

It also addresses the importance of blocking and reporting offenders to prevent further harm.

Curbing Mobile Addiction:

A dedicated section tackles mobile phone addiction, narrating the story of a talented student whose academic performance and health declined due to late-night social media scrolling. The booklet urges strict screen time limits and prioritising sleep over digital distractions.

Safe and Empowering Digital Space:

Officials emphasise that internet is a space filled with both opportunities and risks. With responsibility, awareness and careful choices, it can be transformed into a secure and empowering tool for learning and growth.
