Tamil Nadu School Holiday Today:  The academic year 2025-26 is underway. Currently, school students are preparing for the mid-year exams. The mid-year exams are about to begin in a few days. Due to this, students and teachers are preparing for it. As the mid-year exams are about to begin, heavy rains are falling across the state. Due to this, holidays are being declared for schools.

Holiday for schools and colleges Today:

On December 2, 2025, a holiday was declared in districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram due to heavy rains. With mid-year exams approaching, the holiday has made it difficult for students to prepare for them. Consequently, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in some districts today (December 3rd).

But it does not apply to all districts. That is, local holidays have been declared only for schools, colleges and government offices in Kanyakumari district. That is, local holidays have been declared on the occasion of the Kottar Peralaya festival. Every year, the Kottar Peralaya festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. In this festival, not only the people of the Kumari district, but also devotees from districts including Nellai, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi will participate.

People from Kerala will also participate. In view of this festival, a local holiday has been declared for the Kanyakumari district on December 3 (today). Schools, colleges and government offices have been declared closed on that day. To compensate for this holiday, the district administration has announced that schools and colleges will function on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Local Holiday in Tiruvannamalai for Karthigai Deepam 

Karthigai Deepam festival at the Sri Arunachaleswarar (Annamalaiyar) Temple in Tiruvannamalai will be celebrated on December 3, drawing lakhs of devotees from across the state. To manage the massive influx of pilgrims and ensure smooth conduct of the festival, the Tiruvannamalai District Collector has declared a local holiday for the district

It has been informed that schools, colleges and government offices will function as usual on that day. Furthermore, a local holiday has been declared for the Tiruvannamalai district on December 3. On the occasion of Karthigai Deepam, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in the districts. 

Will Rain-Affected Districts Also Get a Holiday on December 3?

Tamil Nadu remains on edge as the state braces for yet another day of intense rainfall. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has placed 10 districts on alert for December 2 due to the depression lingering over the Bay of Bengal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre forecasts light to moderate rain across Tamil Nadu, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning expected in the region.

Important Announcement from the Department of School Education

The half-yearly examination is scheduled to be held from December 10th to 23rd. With just a few days left for the examination, the School Education Department has issued guidelines for downloading the question papers for students from classes 1 to 8. That is, question papers from classes 1 to 5 can be downloaded from the EMIS website from December 3rd.

Headmasters are advised to download the question papers, keep them safe and use them. Schools can also download the question papers directly from 9 AM the day before the exam.
