School Holiday Tomorrow: The Cyclone "Senyar" threat looms as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues heavy rain warnings for Tamil Nadu. Schools and colleges in coastal districts may announce holidays tomorrow as a precautionary measure.
The IMD has confirmed that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen into Cyclone Senyar, prompting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds for Tamil Nadu.Coastal districts are among the most vulnerable, with localized very heavy showers expected from November 22 to 25.
Cyclone May Be Named ‘Senyar’:
If the system intensifies into a cyclone, it will be named Senyar, meaning “lion.” The name was proposed by the United Arab Emirates and is next on the North Indian Ocean cyclone list. The IMD has not yet confirmed whether cyclogenesis will occur.
School and College Closure Possibility:
Given the weather forecast, the state government is considering closing schools and colleges in affected areas. However, the state has urged parents and students to stay in touch with their school administrations for updates, as formal holiday orders may be issued based on the weather conditions tonight. Some district-level officials are already monitoring any sudden announcements.
What Families Should Do?
Households in coastal Tamil Nadu should prepare for disruptions. Schools closing may come at short notice if conditions worsen. It’s wise to keep children home if safety is uncertain, track official bulletins from IMD and local education departments, and avoid venturing into flood-prone or low-lying areas. Also, colleges may shift to online mode or suspend classes depending on local conditions.
