Jammu and Kashmir School Closed: The Srinagar-Jammu national highway (NH-44) has been closed to all vehicular traffic due to heavy rainfall triggered landslides and shooting stones in Jammu and Kashmir (J & K) Ramban district. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway.
The J & k Police Department advises to avoid travel on the highway for today. while, the administration in the jammu division ordered that all the government and private schools of Janmmu division shall remain closed.
Schools Close As Safety Takes Priority:
According to the advisory of the Meteorological Department in Jammu and Kashmir, thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected from August 17 to 19. Due to this, there is a danger of cloudburst, landslides and heavy floods in sensitive areas. 10 districts of Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert, including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and parts of Kashmir.
Education officials decided to immediately close schools in ten districts of Jammu province, giving priority to the safety of children over academic programs.
Tragedy Strikes In Kishtwar To Kathua Districts:
Earlier, more than 67 people were killed in two cloudburst incidents in the Jammu division's Kishtwar and Kathua districts. A huge cloudburst in the Kathua district on Sunday caused a huge mudslide and landslide that killed seven people and injured six more. The Indian Army, the NDRF, the SDRF, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the civil administration conducted a massive rescue and relief effort.
More rain is expected in the next 48 hours, according to the Jammu and Kashmir weather department, which could cause mudslides, landslides, and cloudbursts in different places.
In certain susceptible areas, this is likely to result in rock falls, landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts during August 17–19. Avoiding water bodies, rivers, drains, river embankments, loose structures, etc. is advised.
