Best Global Universities Rankings: Through its "Best Global Universities Rankings," U.S. News & World Report recognizes the top 2,000 universities in the world. The list for the 2022–23 academic year included institutions from the US as well as more than 90 other nations.
The universities were ranked based on 13 parameters that assessed academic research performance as well as regional and worldwide reputations. The top 10 universities in the US, according to the list, are listed below.
1. Harvard University (Global rank: 1)
In addition to being the greatest university in the United States, Harvard University, which is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, also leads the list in the greatest Global Universities Rankings with a score of 100. Over 20% of Harvard's students are from other countries, and the bulk of them are graduate students.
2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (Global rank: 2)
According to the rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the second-ranked university in the world with a score of 97.7. About 11,000 students attend the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based institute, and 60% of them are graduate students. There are five schools at MIT: engineering, business, humanities, arts, social sciences, and science.
3. Stanford University (Global rank: 3)
Stanford is a university in the Bay Area of California that was established in 1885. With a score of 95.2, it is third both globally and in the US. Graduate students make up more than 50% of the student body. Three of its seven schools—engineering, earth sciences, and humanities and sciences—offer both undergraduate and graduate programs. The remaining four schools—those in business, law, education, and medicine—only provide graduate-level degrees.
4. University of California Berkeley (Global rank: 4)
With an overall score of 88.7, the University of California Berkeley, another university in the Bay Area, ranks fourth in the globe and the US. More than 70% of the school's pupils are undergraduates. The Haas School of Business, the College of Chemistry, the College of Engineering, the School of Public Health, and the School of Law are among the university's 14 colleges and institutions.

5. University of Washington Seattle (Global rank: 6)
According to the rankings, the University of Washington Seattle is fifth in the US and sixth overall with a score of 86.6. It was established in 1861 and has campuses in Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma. On campuses nationwide, almost 70% of the students are undergraduates. More than 370 graduate-level programs are also available.
6. Columbia University (Global rank: 7)
The rankers gave Columbia University an overall score of 86.5 and placed the university in seventh place worldwide. It is a private institution that was established in the borough of Manhattan in New York City in 1754. Around 30% of all enrolled students are undergraduates, and 30% of all enrolled students are from outside the United States.
7. California Institute of Technology (Global rank: 9)
According to the rankings, Caltech, also known as the California Institute of Technology, is the seventh-best university in the US. It was originally known as Throop University and changed its name in 1920. At Caltech, around 55% of students are pursuing graduate degrees. The majority of Caltech's students come from other countries.
8. Johns Hopkins University (Global rank: 10)
The private university Johns Hopkins was established in 1876. In addition to campuses in China and Italy, it also operates campuses in North Baltimore and the District of Columbia in the US. North Baltimore is home to the main campus. It received an 84.7 out of 100 score from US News, placing it tenth globally. The university has nine academic divisions and offers degrees in engineering, business, education, medical, nursing, music, public health, and international studies. It also offers degrees in the arts and sciences.
9. Yale University (Global rank: 11)
According to the rankings, Yale University is ranked eleventh in the world. It received an overall rating of 84.6. One of the oldest colleges and universities in the US, Yale was established in 1701. New Haven, Connecticut is home to a private university.
About 45% of students are enrolled in UG courses. International students make up about 20% of the total student body. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, as well as other professional schools, are all part of Yale.
10. University of California Los Angeles (Global rank: 14)
UCLA, the tenth institution on the list, came in at number 14 internationally with an 84.2 score. The majority of students—roughly 70%—are undergraduates. Over 20% of graduate students and about 12% of undergraduates are from other countries. For undergraduate study, the university offers five academic concentrations: nursing, theatre, cinema, and television; engineering and applied science; arts and architecture; and letters and science.
The Anderson School of Management, David Geffen School of Medicine, and Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are three of the university's highly respected graduate schools. The main teaching hospital at UCLA is called Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
