List Of Government Schemes For Education In India

NEP 2020: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet approved the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on July 29, 2020. This policy aims to transform India's education system, aligning it with the demands of the 21st century, and promoting an inclusive, progressive approach.

PM SHRI: Approved by Prime Minister Modi on September 7, 2022, the PM SHRI Schools (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme is set to enhance over 14,500 schools across the country, showcasing the core elements of NEP 2020. This initiative promotes quality education, cognitive development, and essential 21st-century skills.

Samagra Shiksha: In alignment with NEP 2020, Samagra Shiksha, launched on April 1, 2021, focuses on delivering inclusive, equitable quality education within diverse classroom settings. Running until March 31, 2026, it aims to enhance academic abilities and active participation across various student demographics.

PRERNA: This initiative, launched in a pilot phase from January 15 to February 17, 2024, at a vernacular school in Vadnagar, Gujarat, is a week-long residential program designed for select students in classes 9 to 12. Each week, a cohort of 20 students (10 boys and 10 girls) from across India engage in an experiential learning journey, blending heritage with modern technology.

ULLAS: Also known as the Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (New India Literacy Programme - NILP), ULLAS was launched for FY 2022-2027 by the Government of India. This initiative, aligned with NEP 2020, focuses on adult literacy, especially for individuals aged 15 and above who missed formal schooling, empowering them to contribute to national progress.

NIPUN Bharat: Launched on July 5, 2021, by the Department of School Education & Literacy, NIPUN Bharat aims to ensure that every child achieves foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, with a target completion by 2026-27.

Vidya Pravesh: Released on July 29, 2021, the VIDYA PRAVESH guidelines introduce a three-month play-based school preparation module for Grade I children. This initiative aims to create a welcoming and positive transition into formal schooling.

Vidyanjali: Launched by Prime Minister Modi on September 7, 2021, the School Volunteer Management Program encourages community involvement and private sector participation to enhance school education quality across India.

DIKSHA: Introduced on September 5, 2017, by Hon’ble Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, DIKSHA serves as a platform for teacher training and professional development, empowering states and Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) to adapt the platform to their needs.

SWAYAM Plus: Officially launched on February 27, 2024, by Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, SWAYAM Plus is designed to enhance higher education and employability by integrating a credit recognition system for industry-relevant courses, focusing on skill development and building industry connections.

NISHTHA: The NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads' and Teachers' Holistic Advancement) program was launched on August 21, 2019, to improve the professional development of 42 lakh elementary teachers and school heads. It transitioned to NISHTHA-Online in 2020, and NISHTHA 2.0 and 3.0 were introduced in 2021, targeting secondary teachers and foundational literacy, respectively.

PM-Vidyalaxmi Scheme: The PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet under PM Modi, supports meritorious students with financial assistance for higher education. Benefiting over 22 lakh students annually, it offers education loans for students enrolled in India’s top 860 institutions, with a Rs. 3,600 crore budget from 2024-25 to 2030-31.
