UPSC Success Story: The story of Sanjay Dahariya is not just about clearing India’s toughest competitive exam; it is a saga of human resilience against the darkest of odds. Hailing from Beltukri village in Mahasamund, Sanjay grew up as the son of a humble farmer and a homemaker. Despite coming from a background with limited resources and belonging to the Scheduled Caste category, his academic spark was evident early on when he was selected for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Raipur, a turning point that set the foundation for his future ambitions.

However, Sanjay’s path was far from linear. Before finding his calling in the civil services, he proved his mettle by clearing several prestigious banking exams. He served in the State Bank of India, IDBI Bank, and the Indian Post Office. While many would have settled for the security of these government jobs, Sanjay harbored a deeper fire.

He resigned multiple times, risking financial stability to dedicate his life to the UPSC dream, even when a devastating medical diagnosis threatened to take away everything.

A Battle Beyond Books: Fighting Cancer

In 2012, at the peak of his youth and ambition, Sanjay was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer. The news was earth-shattering, turning his world upside down. Between 2012 and 2018, while most aspirants were focused solely on their notes, Sanjay was battling for his life in Mumbai. Remarkably, he never let his illness become an excuse.

He balanced his grueling medical treatments with his professional duties and persistent studies, demonstrating a level of mental strength that few possess.

The Triumph of Perseverance

Sanjay’s UPSC journey officially began in 2022. He faced setbacks in his first two attempts, but rather than surrendering to failure or his health challenges, which also included issues with his eyesigh, the analyzed his weaknesses. Under the guidance of his mentors and with the silent support of his family, he refined his strategy.

In his third attempt in 2025, the results finally mirrored his hard work, as he saw his name on the final merit list with Rank 946.

An Inspiration for the Digital Generation

Today, Sanjay's story is trending as a beacon of hope for millions of young people who often feel overwhelmed by life's minor difficulties. His journey underscores the fact that success does not mean an absence of obstacles along the way; rather, true success lies in persevering despite those hurdles.

For a boy hailing from a remote village, simultaneously navigating the challenges of a life-threatening illness and the rigorous syllabus of the UPSC examination is a feat that will be remembered for years to come. His message to the youth is crystal clear: if you possess unwavering determination and adopt a never-give-up attitude, even the impossible becomes possible.
