West Bengal School Holiday: The West Bengal School Education Department has ordered that all the schools, college and educational institute will remain closed for two days on September 24 and 25, 2025 because of heavy rains and prediction of continued rains in the coming two days in West Bengal. Schools in the city were closed on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) after heavy overnight rainfall disrupted normal life.
According to the latest notification published by the West Bengal School Education Department, schools, colleges and all educational institutions in the state will remain closed on September 24 and 25 due to severe rains.
As per the official notice, school holidays will apply to all the government, government-aided, private and sponsored institutions in the state. Schools will remain closed for primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools except for those schools that are located in the hill areas.
The West Bengal government also announced Durga Puja holidays in state-run educational institutions two days ahead of the mentioned schedule.
Following CM Mamata Banerjee's appeal to stay off waterlogged roads to prevent accidents, holidays in schools or shift towards online classes, state education minister Bratya Basu announced that all government-run education institutions would remain closed for two days to ensure safety of the students.
Severe Rains in Kolkata:
Normal life in Kolkata and its surrounding areas came to a near standstill on Tuesday as very heavy overnight rainfall triggered widespread flooding. At least seven people died due to electrocution in the city. The government decided to close all the schools, colleges and educational institutes for two days amid heavy rain in the state.
