RAC, PQWL, RLWL, GNWL Meaning In Railways:  Whenever we book a railway ticket, we often face various abbreviations that we may not fully understand. The Central Railways information system uses these codes to manage passenger details. Abbreviations like RAC, PQWL, RLWL, GNWL, WL, and CNF can leave many passengers puzzled. It’s essential to know the meaning of these railway codes if you're planning to travel. Here, you can check the types of status in Indian Railways ticket booking.

Different Types Of Status In Indian Railways Ticket Booking

What Is The Meaning Of RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) In Railway Ticket Booking?

If a user has been issued an RAC ticket, it is likely that the ticket will be confirmed by the time of chart preparation, resulting in the allocation of a berth. If the ticket remains in RAC status after chart preparation, the user is assigned a half berth (seat), meaning two passengers with RAC status share one side-lower berth. The TTE is required to allocate any berths that become available due to cancellations after chart preparation to these RAC passengers.

What Is The Meaning Of PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List)?

When a long-distance train stops between two stations, waiting list tickets are categorised as PQWL. If a confirmed ticket is canceled at a station, the likelihood of PQWL tickets being confirmed increases.

What Is The Meaning Of RLWL (Remote Location Waiting List)?

Tickets on the Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL) have a higher chance of getting confirmed within their specific quota, which is reserved for smaller stations. At these intermediate stations, waiting list tickets are categorised as RLWL. This means passengers have a chance to secure a seat if someone cancels their journey specifically from that remote location. However, it’s important to note that RLWL tickets have lower confirmation chances compared to GNWL or RAC tickets.

What Is The Meaning Of GNWL (General Waiting List)?

General Waiting List (GNWL) tickets are issued when passengers cancel their confirmed bookings. This is the most common type of waiting list, with the highest chances of confirmation.

What Is The Meaning Of WL (Waiting List)?

A passenger with a WL (Waitlist) ticket is on the waiting list and is not permitted to board the train. A waitlisted ticket can be canceled by the passenger up to 30 minutes before the train's departure. If a WL ticket does not get confirmed, it is automatically canceled.

What Is The Meaning Of RSWL (Roadside Station Waiting List)?

The Roadside Station Waiting List (RSWL) is assigned when berths or seats are reserved by the originating station for travel up to the roadside station, and distance restrictions may not apply. This waiting list also has very low chances of confirmation.

What Is The Meaning Of CNF (Confirmed)?

The passenger's seat has been confirmed, and it will be assigned after chart preparation.

What Is The Meaning Of CAN (Cancelled)?

This means the passenger's seat has been canceled.

What Is The Meaning Of TQWL (Tatkal Quota Waitlisted ticket)?

TQWL stands for Tatkal Waitlist. When a passenger books a tatkal ticket and is placed on the waitlist, the status is shown as TQWL. This type of ticket has the lowest likelihood of being confirmed.
