New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Polling culminates for 90 seats of Haryana and 288 assembly constituencies of Maharashtra. The electoral fate of over 4400 candidates- 1169 in Haryana and 3237 in Maharashtra will be sealed in EVMs by the voters. The results will be declared on October 24.
As the voting reached its end, 57.24% of voter turnout has been recorded in both states. While in Haryana 63.02% voter turn out was recorded, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly recorded 56.10% voter turn out till 6 pm.
Maharashtra:
In Maharashtra 56.10% of voter turn out was recorded till 6 pm, with Washim(57.24%), Nagpur (55.68%), Beed (58.50%) and Kolhapur (69.36%), and Ahmednagar (64.92%) were among the top districts in terms of voter turn out till 6 pm, according to ECI’s Voter Turnout App.
The lowest turnout was recorded in Mumbai City (44.40%) and Thane (44.57%) districts of Maharashtra till 6pm. In Maharashtra 96,661 polling booths have been set up by the Election Commission (EC) for citizens to cast their votes.
Technical glitches in electronic voting machines (EVM) were reported from various polling booths in West Nagpur constituency according to TimesofIndia. Power cut at a polling booth in Pune's Shivaji Nagar was also reported by news agency ANI.
Two activists of BJP suffered injuries in a scuffle with NCP workers in Jamkhed 250 kms from Nashik in Ahmednagar district. Reports of a scuffle came in from Maharashtra's Beed and Jalna districts as the state voted for the Assembly polls on Monday.
Despite threats from the Maoists to stop Gadchiroli villagers from voting, the voter turnout in the Maoism hit district reaches 52.51%.
Haryana:
In Haryana, 63.08% voter turnout was recorded across the state till 6 pm. The maximum turnout was recorded in Fatehabad where it reached 71.13 per cent. Next on the list was Yamunanagar where the turnout was 69.35 per cent while in Jind, the turnout was 67.45 per cent.
The lowest turnout in Haryana was recorded in Gurugram where the turnout was just 50.81 per cent till 6 pm. Faridabad also saw a low turnout where it was just 54.21 per cent.
Polling is underway to select a fresh legislative assembly in Haryana and Maharashtra. The polling began at 7.00 am in the morning on Monday and continued till 6.00 pm. There are over 4,400 candidates -- 1,169 in Haryana and 3,237 in Maharashtra -- who are contesting the elections.
In Haryana, 19,578 polling stations have been set up by the Election Commission (EC) while there are 96,661 polling booths in Maharashtra for citizens to cast their votes.
In Haryana, the contest is among the BJP, Congress, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the recently-formed Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) while in Maharashtra, the contest is between the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and the Congress-NCP coalition.
The BJP is contesting 150 seats while Shiv Sena has fielded 124 candidates. The remaining seats have been left for smaller allies. On the other hand, Congress is contesting the polls in alliance with the NCP.
Counting of votes in both Haryana and Maharashtra assembly polls will take place on October 24.
