Assembly Elections 2023: The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force in the states of Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram as the Election Commission announced the schedule for Assembly elections that are to be held in the five states later this year. MCC is a set of guidelines which political parties and candidates have to strictly abide by during election season. It comes into effect on the day the schedule for elections is announced and remains in place till the date of the result announcement.

In Telangana, polling will be held in a single phase on November 30, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said during a press conference. On the other hand, electorate in Chhattisgarh will elect their Legislative Assembly representatives in two phases, on November 7 and November 17.

Madhya Pradesh will witness people throng polling booths on November 17 to choose from the pool of candidates battling it out to secure their place in the 230-seat state Assembly. Rajasthan will go to the polls on November 23 to elect 200 MLAs. Meanwhile, Mizoram will vote in a single phase on November 7 to fill its 40-member state legislature. The counting of votes in all states will take place on December 3.

The total number of voters in Mizoram is 8.52 lakh. In Chhattisgarh, it is 2.03 crore, in Madhya Pradesh 5.6 crore, in Rajasthan 5.25 crore and 3.17 crore in Telangana. Congress and BJP are the key players in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Telangana is expected to witness a triangular contest between the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress and BJP. The forthcoming Assembly polls will be a litmus test for parties before the 2024 Lok Sabha Election.
