K Chandrashekhar Rao's national aspirations came crumbling down with the Congress party’s landslide victory in Telangana on Sunday. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi conceded defeat after the grand old party crossed the majority mark earlier in the day. Senior party leader KTR took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Congress on the latter’s victory in the Assembly election.

“Grateful to the people of Telangana for giving@BRSpartytwo consecutive terms of Government. Not saddened over the result today, but surely disappointed as it was not in expected lines for us. But we will take this in our stride as a learning and will bounce back. Congratulations to Congress party on winning the mandate. Wishing you Good Luck,” he wrote.

As per the official information available from the Election Commission of India on Sunday evening, the Congress had won 62 seats and was leading on two. BRS won 36 and was leading on three. BJP won eight seats. Owaisi’s AIMIM won five seats and was leading on 2. CPI had to settle for just one seat.

Chandrashekhar Rao submitted his resignation to the governor and the Congress is all set to helm the state. Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy’s name has been making the rounds for the top post, however, the party has yet to announce a CM candidate.

Revanth played a key role in reviving the party and hence is being credited for Congress’ big win.

As of 2018 polls in the state, the Congress party won 19 seats. However, it lost a dozen MLAs to the BRS and one to BJP. The party was left with only five members in the state assembly. The party, however, bounced back after it laid out its poll guarantees on the lines of promises made during the Karnataka Assembly polls.

The speculations of a hung Assembly were rife and Congress leaders were on tenterhooks. DK Shivakumar and other observers of AICC had reached Hyderabad on Saturday to foil any poaching attempt by the BRS.

Note: The numbers mentioned above will be updated as and when EC declares the final results in Telangana. The counting on a few seats is still underway.
