Hyderabad Voting Live:  The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency voted to select its representative for the 18th Lok Sabha today. The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, which is among the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana went to the polls during the fourth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and AIMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi, seeks his fifth term from this constituency. BJP has fielded Madhavi Latha, which is the first time the saffron party has fielded a woman candidate from the Hyderabad seat. Congress has fielded Mohammad Waliullah Sameer and BRS has given a ticket to Gaddam Srinivas Yadav. 

Hyderabad has been an AIMIM stronghold for the past four decades. Asaduddin Owaisi has secured victory in this seat for four consecutive terms since 2004. Prior to him, his father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, represented Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha for six straight terms starting from 1984.

Hyderabad Lok Sabha Election 2019 Results

In the 2019 elections, Hyderabad had a total of 19,57,931 eligible voters, with 8,77,872 valid votes cast. Asaduddin Owaisi emerged victorious with a substantial margin, securing 5,17,471 votes. Dr Bhagavanth Rao, the BJP candidate, trailed by a significant margin of 2,82,186 votes.

This time, Asaduddin Owaisi faces a fierce battle with BJP's Madhavi Latha, a debutant in the political arena. Latha, aged 49, gained prominence when her name appeared on the BJP's candidate list for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Nizam College and a Master's degree in Political Science from Osmania University.

BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Hyderabad, Madhavi Latha staged a protest in front of the polling booth to open the gate.

She alleges that some people inside the polling booth at Jamal Colony, Riyasat Nagar of Santosh Nagar Police station limits, to rig the election.

- On Madhavi Latha checking IDs of Burqa-clad women in Hyderabad, the city Commissioner of Police Sreenivasa Reddy said "...ARO has given a complaint against one candidate for checking the identity of voters that is not her job. It is the job of polling officers not even the police. After registering the case, we are investigating it now."

- A very low voter turnout was recorded at the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat with only 39.17 per cent voters turning up to cast their votes.

- Tollywood actor Ram Charan along with his wife, Upasana Kamineni Konidela voted at a polling booth in Jubilee Hills.

- Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency recorded a voter turnout of 29.47 per cent till 3 PM. The low percentage of voting is far lower than the overall voter turnout in Telangana, which has been recorded at 52.34 per cent so far.  

- BJP candidate Madhavi Latha alleged that 90 per cent of polling booths in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency are compromised. "Police do not want to instruct female constables to check the face with the voter ID. When I asked the police officer, he said it's not his responsibility," she claimed.

- Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy alleged BJP was attempting to polarise Muslim votes. His remarks came after the saffron party's candidate, Madhavi Latha, sparked a controversy by checking the voter ID cards of Muslim women at a polling booth in Hyderabad. "I have not seen (the video). But BJP is simply trying to polarise Muslim votes to make Asaduddin Owaisi win. All these issues are going to help Owaisi," CM Revanth Reddy told ANI while responding to the video.

-Voter turnout stands at just 19.37 per cent in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency till 1 pm, which is the lowest in Telangana so far.   

- A case has been registered against BJP Hyderabad candidate Madhavi Latha after she visited a polling booth a was seen checking the identity cards of the voters. The case has been registered under sections 171C, 186, 505(1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 132 of the Representation of the People Act. 

- Hyderabad Lok Sabha recorded 10.7 per cent voter turnout till 11 am, which is the lowest percentage in Telangana so far. 

- BJP Hyderabad candidate Madhavi Latha alleges discrepancies in the voter list, stating that names of several voters have been deleted from the voter list after visiting polling booth no 122 at Azampur in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. She also alleges that few of the voters are residents of Goshamahal but their names are in the list of Rangareddy.

Senior citizens reached to the polling stations defying age to cast their votes in Hyderabad. Their bad health is not stopping them from exercising their voting rights while they are also inspiring youth to participate in the world's biggest democratic event in large numbers.

-  Asaduddin Owaisi said Lok Sabha Election 2024 is different while stating that every election cannot be the same as it was 5 years ago. ''The challenges are different, issues are different. This is a very important, historic parliamentary election in our country. People have a different understanding and what they want for the country," the AIMIM Hyderabad candidate said.
