Jalandhar Election 2024 Voting Result Highlights: Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat by a huge margin of 1,75,993 votes, according to the Election Commission of India. Channi, the former Punjab chief minister, defeated the BJP's Sushil Rinku. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu remained at the third spot with 2.08 lakh votes while Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Mohinder Singh Kaypee got 67,911 votes.
The counting of votes in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, one of the 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab, began at 8 AM today amid tight security arrangements. This constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes, voted on June 1 in the seventh phase of the 2024 elections. It includes nine assembly segments which are Phillaur (SC), Nakodar, Shahkot, Kartarpur (SC), Jalandhar West (SC), Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar North, Jalandhar Cantt, Adampur (SC), and Chabbewal (SC). BJP has fielded Sushil Kumar Rinku from this seat while Congress has fielded Charanjit Singh Channi. AAP has given ticket to Pawan Kumar Tinu.
2023 By-Election
After the passing of Santokh Singh Chaudhary during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in January 2023, a by-election was held in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency. In this election, Sushil Kumar Rinku of AAP emerged victorious, defeating Congress' Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary by a margin of more than 58,000 votes.
2019 Lok Sabha Election
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Santokh Singh Chaudhary of the Congress retained the Jalandhar seat, defeating Charanjit Singh Atwal of the SAD by 19,491 votes. Chaudhary received 385,712 votes, while Atwal received 366,221 votes.
