Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha has responded to the BJP's show-cause notice, which questioned the former for not participating in the party’s poll campaigns. The MP from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, shared a two-page letter on social media, addressing the letter from the state general secretary, Aditya Sahu.

On charges that he did not participate in the poll campaign, Sinha said he was not contacted by the party’s top brass in this regard, adding that he was ‘unjustly targeted’ by the party. “If the party had wanted me to participate in any election activities, you could surely have contacted me. However, not a single senior party official or MP/MLA from Jharkhand reached out to me post my announcement on 2 March 2024. I was not invited for any party events, rallies, or organizational meetings. If Shri Babu Lal Marandi ji wanted me to participate, he could have certainly called me, but he did not,” he said.

On allegations that he also failed to cast his vote, Sinha said he availed the provision of a postal ballot as he had to travel abroad.

“...Before leaving India, I sent my vote through the postal ballot process. Therefore, it is wrong of you to allege that I did not exercise my responsibility to vote,” Sinha said.

Before the announcement of the 2024 general elections, Sinha tweeted that he had written to party president JP Nadda, requesting to be excused from the electoral process as he was not interested in contesting the polls. He said he wanted to take a break “to focus on combating issues arising from global climate change”.

Days back, Congress claimed Sinha’s son Aarish had joined the opposition camp against the BJP. However, he refuted the claim.
