THE ELECTION Commission of India has announced the Karnataka Assembly election on May 10, and the result of the polls will be announced on May 13.
Basavakalyan is an assembly constituency in poll-bound Karnataka, which is a city municipal council within the Karnataka district of Bidar. It is divided into 31 wards, where the polls take place every five years.
This assembly seat was won by B. Narayanrao of the Indian National Congress (INC), who defeated Sidramappa Khuba of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018. However, in the by-election that took place in this constituency, Sharanu Salagar won the seat against Mala B Narayanrao of the Congress by a margin of 20,629 votes.
Basavakalyan Assembly Election 2023:
In the 2023 Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Sharanu Salagar as their candidate, while the Congress has chosen Vijay Singh as their candidate. The JD (S) has fielded S.Y. Quadri, and the new entrant, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has chosen Deepak Malagar as their candidate for the polls.
Basavakalyan Assembly By Election (2021)
In 2021, Sharanu Salagar of the BJP won the assembly constituency by a margin of 20,629 votes against Mala B Narayanrao of the Congress. The Congress candidate secured 50,383 votes and emerged as runner-up, while the BJP's Salagar won the seat by securing 71,012 votes. Third place was grabbed by the JDS candidate, who had 11,402 votes in the polls.
Basavakalyan Assembly Election (2018)
In 2018, B Narayanrao of the Congress emerged as the winner by securing 61,425 votes against the BJP's Sidramappa Khuba, who secured second place with a total vote of 44,153. The congress candidate won the seat by a total vote margin of 17,272. The third place in the 2018 polls was grabbed by Sindhia of JDS.
In this assembly constituency, there are a total of 2,21,073 voters, which includes general voters, NRI voters, and service voters. Among the general voters, 1,16,825 are male, 1,04,232 are female, and 15 others general voters, NRI voters, and service voters. Amongst the general voters 1,16,825 are male, 1,04,232 female and 15 others.
