KARNATAKA Assembly Election 2023: Chittapur, Kalaburagi district, is one of the 224 Legislative Assembly constituencies in Karnataka and is one of the eight segments of the Gulbarga Lok Sabha seat. This constituency is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
Voters in Chittapur voted for the Assembly polls on May 10 along with 223 other constituencies of Karnataka. The counting of votes for the Karnataka Assembly election will take place today, on May 13, 2023.
As far as the Chittapur constituency is concerned, Congress dominates the seat and Priyank Kharge (son of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge) represents the seat. This year, there was a close battle between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While JD(S) also posed a challenge to the grand old party.
Chittapur Assembly Election 2023:
For the upcoming Assembly election, the Congress has given a ticket to Priyank Kharge who currently represents the constituency and the BJP fielded Manikanta Rathod. The Janata Dal (Secular) has chosen Dr Subhashchandra Rathod while a new entrant, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fielded Jagdish S Sagar.
Chittapur Assembly Election 2018:
In the 2018 Assembly election, Congress candidate Priyank Kharge won the seat against Valmik Naik who fought on a BJP ticket with a margin of 4393 votes. Kharge got 69,700 votes and Valmik Naik bagged 65,307 votes.
Out of 2,31,920 registered electors, 1,40,397 voters turned out for the 2018 Chittapur Assembly election which included general voters, NRI voters, and service voters. Among the general voters, 71,525 were male and 68,407 were female. According to the Election Commission of India, the constituency witnessed a 60.54 per cent voter turnout.
