KARNATAKA Assembly Election 2023: The voting on Shorapur will take place on May 10 along with 223 other constituencies of Karnataka. Shorapur is a city and taluka which comes under the Yadgir district of the southern state.
Shorapur Assembly constituency is one of the 224 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Karnataka and falls under the Raichur Lok Sabha Constituency. This constituency is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST).
The results of the Karnataka Assembly election will be declared on May 13, 2023. There are a total of 2,613 candidates in the poll fray for the state election. Out of 2,613 candidates in the poll fray, 2,427 are male, 184 females and 2 others.
Shorapur Assembly Election 2023:
For the upcoming Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded Narasimha Nayak (Rajugouda) and Congress has given a ticket to Raja Venkatappa Naik. Rajugouda is s sitting MLA of Shorapur who is looking for another term. While Naik has been giving a tough challenge to Rajugouda. In 2013, Naik won the Shoraput seat against Rajugouda.
This year, there will be a close battle between BJP and Congress. When the saffron party is eying for a second consecutive term, Congress is hoping to grab power from the BJP.
Shorapur Assembly Election 2018:
In the 2018 Assembly election, BJP candidate Narasimha Nayak (Rajugouda) won the seat after defeating Congress candidate Raja Venkatappa Naik with a margin of 22,568 votes. Rajugouda got 1,04,426 votes while Naik bagged 81,858 votes.
Out of 2,75,668 registered electors in Shorapur, 1,97,311 voters including general voters, NRI voters, and service voters turned out for the Assembly election in 2018. Among the general voters, 1,00,701 were male and 95,504 were female. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 71.58 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in the constituency.
