Karnataka Assembly Election 2023: IN THE last fourty-six years, there has been no Chief Minister in poll-bound Karnataka except K Siddaramaih, who has completed his five-year tenure as the head of the state. The senior Congress leader served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from May 13, 2013 to May 15, 2018. Before him, D Devaraj Urs from the Congress served his entire tenure as CM. He served his complete tenure from 1972 to 1977. Urs was also chosen as the Chief Minister for the second consecutive tenure but failed to complete his tenure. However, he could not serve for the entire tenure.

For the first time, S Nijalingappa completed his tenure as Karanataka Chief Minister. He served the state from June 21, 1962, to May 29, 1968. Besides him, D Devaraj Urs also completed their tenure as head of state.

Chief minister with tenure more than once

S Nijalingappa has been the state CM twice, from 1956 to 1958 and 1962 to 1968. Besides him, D Devaraj Urs, Veerendra Patil, and H D Kumaraswamy have served as Chief Minister twice. B S Yediyurappa has served the poll-bound state four times. He has also been the Chief Minister who has served the state for the least number of days in one of his tenures. Devaraj Urs has served the state for the maximum number of days. He was the Chief Minister of the state from March 20, 1972, to January 1980, completing seven years as the Chief Minister in two separate elections.

The state has had 23 chief ministers to date. The first Chief Minister was K Chengalaraya Reddy, whose tenure began on October 25, 1947, and ended on March 30, 1952. Back then, the state was known as Mysore. It was formed on October 25, 1947, and was named Karnataka in 1973.

The state has witnessed the president's rule six times until now. The first time the President Rule was imposed was on March 19, 1971, and the last time it came into force was on November 20, 2007.
