Lok Sabha Election 2024: Voting For First Phase Across 102 Seats Ends, Nearly 60% Turnout Recorded Till 5 Pm | Highlights

The voting for all 39 constituencies ended in Tamil Nadu during the first phase of the polls on Friday.

The election commission said on friday that nearly 60 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of polling.

The voting in Manipur's Imphal East concluded and the EVMs, VVPATs machines are being sealed. The timing for casting vote in the state was from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Telangana BJP chief and party's candidate from Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, G Kishan Reddy filed nomination on Friday for Lok Sabha elections.

Lok Sabha Polls: In the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 51.41 per cent till 3 p.m.

Among 21 States and Union Territories, Tripura recorded highest voter turnout with 68.35% at 3 PM. According to the latest data released by the Election Commission of India, West Bengal with a 66.34% voter turnout holds the second position and Manipur logged 63.03%.

Polling has been stopped in five booths in Manipur, 2 in East Imphal and 3 in West Imphal after a ruckus broke out when people alleged irregularities, says a polling officer.,

This time, there is a substantial increase in the voter turnout charts across the states in the country, with Tripura leading at 53.04 per cent till 1 PM as per the data released by the Election Commission of India. Other Northeast states like Meghalaya (48.91) and Manipur (46.92) are also witnessing high voter turnout percentages.

The States and Union Territories where the voting is being held are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. An estimated 35.7 per cent of the total 3,15,148 voters in Andaman and Nicobar Islands have exercised their franchise till 1 PM. Voting in the first phase of 102 seats is underway.

An Assistant Commandant of CRPF got injured in an IED blast while on election duty in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. The incident was reported near Chihka village of Bhairamgarh. Injured Commandant brought to Bhairamgarh Hospital for treatment, says Bijapur Police.

BJP candidate from Pauri Garhwal constituency in Uttarakhand Anil Baluni offers prayers at Kandoliya Devta temple before casting his vote.
