Lok Sabha Election 2024: As the fervour of Lok Sabha Election 2024 grips the nation, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj parliamentary seat today. Earlier, the party decided to field Tej Pratap Yadav from the seat, but the party on Wednesday decided to stick with Yadav as the final candidate. After filing his nomination from Kannauj, Yadav said, "I have filed my nomination papers. The sentiments of the party, leaders, workers, and everyone were that I should contest the election from here on behalf of the Samajwadi Party. I express my gratitude to everyone. I hope I will get blessings from here."

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kannauj MP Subrat Pathak, has compared his electoral contest with Akhilesh Yadav with India vs Pakistan cricket match.

“In a democracy, the election is the biggest festival. When elections are held they should be interesting...When Akhilesh Yadav sent Tej Pratap here he understood...If the match had been with Tej Pratap it would have been India vs Japan's cricket match. Now the match would be like India vs Pakistan (Subrata Pathak against Akhilesh Yadav),” Kannuaj MP Subrat Pathak told news agency ANI.

Responding to Subrat Pathak's ‘India vs Pakistan match’ remark over his electoral contest from Kannauj, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Neither will he be able to throw the ball, nor will he be able to swing the bat. 'Agar pehli ball par chhakka nahin maara toh hum bhi Samajwadi nahin'. We will hit sixes on all six balls."

Notably, in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, BJP’s Subrat Pathak defeated Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav from the Kannauj constituency. The Samajwadi Party took to its official X handle on Wednesday to announce that Yadav would file his nomination papers from Kannauj on Thursday afternoon.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the party wrote, "The party National President Akhilesh Yadav will file nomination papers as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Kannauj Lok Sabha Seat on April 25 at noon."

Before the party's announcement, Akhilesh Yadav exuded confidence about the Samajwadi Party’s historic win from Kannauj and said, “The question here is of historic victory from the seat. The BJP will become history in this election as people have made up their mind for INDIA bloc. People are going to vote against the NDA. PDA (picchde, Dalit, alpsankhyak) will defeat the NDA this time.”

Akhilesh Yadav had reportedly won the Kannauj seat in 2000. Later, he contested the seat in 2004, and 2009, and left after becoming chief minister in 2012. Later, Akhilesh’s wife Dimple won the seat in 2014 but she lost the battle to BJP’s Subrat Pathak in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election. Voting in Kannauj Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 13.
