As Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and supporters prepare for a landslide victory in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections and retain their rule in the state, it is significant to mention the party's "Ladli Behna Scheme" which orchestrated the big win. The women's welfare scheme targeted at wooing woman voters worked well for the saffron camp with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan eyeing the top post for a possible fourth term.
BJP and Congress were the key candidates for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly. As ECI results indicated a return to power, Chouhan credited the double-engine BJP government for the party's success in the state.
"Modi ji MP ke mann mein hain aur Modi ji ke mann mein MP hai. He held public rallies here and appealed to the people and that touched people's hearts. These trends are a result of that. Double-engine government properly implemented the schemes of the Central Government and the schemes that were formed here also touched people's hearts," the CM lauded.
What Is Ladli Behna Scheme?
Under the Ladli Behna Yojana Rs 1250 is being transferred monthly to eligible women from poor families in Madhya Pradesh which amounts to Rs 15,000 annually. On the tenth day of every month, the state govt transfers the sum through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). However, the beneficiary should not be a taxpayer and the family income should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh per year.
The scheme is only applicable to women who are married, divorced, widowed, or abandoned women, unmarried women cannot apply for the benefits. It also does not extend its benefits to women or girls who are enrolled in any educational institution including schools and colleges.

Even though Congress has described it as an election sop, implemented months before the assembly polls, the BJP leaders have said that it is in line with the party's work for empowering women.
Just a day ahead of voting, Chouhan had told ANI, "Kaante ki takkar', 'Kaante ki takkar'...'Laadli behna ne saare kaante nikaal diye (What neck-to-neck fight? The daughters and sisters seems to have set us on the road to victory".
