In a major upset for the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) government in Telangana, Congress has gained a huge margin and is leading towards victory in the state assembly elections. Telangana went to polls on November 30 and today when the results are becoming clear, Congres has emerged as the largest party in the state with majority.
Revanth Reddy, a name which making has been making headlines for his role in the Congress party’s victory, has played a pivotal role in the state election campaign. As per current trends, the 54-year-old leader is not only leading against Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) stronghold of Kamareddy but also has defeated the sitting MLA Patnam Narender Reddy in Kodangal of BRS, the second seat he is contesting from.
A former MLA from the Telugu Desam Party, Mr. Reddy, who joined the Congress in 2017, has been a two-time MLA and currently represents Malkajgiri in the Lok Sabha. His appointment as the Telangana Congress chief in July 2021 brought about a visible change in the party's strategy, with Reddy taking a prominent role on the ground, leading protests against the ruling BRS government.

Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy, despite facing internal criticism for his leadership style, seems to have orchestrated a successful campaign in the southern state.
After the party's success in Karnataka, the Congress leadership threw its weight behind Mr. Reddy, projecting him as a significant leader on the national stage despite opposition from within the party. He was featured prominently in massive rallies alongside other national faces of the party.
Revanth Reddy managed to give a lift to the public’s voice on the underlying issue of corruption in the state. The decision to pit Reddy against KCR in Kamareddy, a traditional BRS stronghold since Telangana's formation in 2014, indicates trust from the party's high command.
Expressing confidence in his party's performance, Reddy had earlier predicted a landslide victory, stating, "Congress is going to get a landslide victory this time."

Responding to questions about his potential role as Chief Minister if Congress secures a win, he highlighted the party's procedural approach, said, "There is a screening committee, a selection committee, and then the CWC has to take a call (for CM). In Congress, there is a process for everything. Being the PCC president, I will have to obey every order from the high command."
