Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: The elections to the 200 Assembly constituencies in Rajasthan will be held later this year. Though the dates have not been announced by the Election Commission of India, it is expected that the elections will be held in November end or December start.

The Barmer constituency is one of the 200 Assembly constituencies in Rajasthan and falls under the Barmer district. The Barmer Assembly segment is part of the Barmer Lok Sabha/ Parliamentary constituency and falls under the West region of Rajasthan. Notably, Barmer is classified as a rural constituency.

The total electorate encompassing the Barmer constituency comprises 2,32,229 eligible voters. This count is composed of 1,22,803 male voters and 1,09,426 female voters, as per the Election Commission's data in 2018. 

In the 2018 Barmer election, Congress candidate Mewaram Jain won the seat by a margin of 33,047 votes defeating BJP's Sonaram Choudhary who grabbed over 64,000 votes. Ameen, meanwhile, grabbed over 97,000 votes with a vote percentage of 51.95 per cent.

In the 2013 election, Congress’ Mewaram Jain emerged victorious by a margin of merely 5,913 votes. Mewaram Jain managed to secure the support of 40.33 per cent of the total votes counted defeating BJP’s Priyanka Chowdhary who got 36.60 per cent of votes of the total turnout. Congress’ incumbent MLA Mewaram Jain clinched this seat in the 2008 Assembly elections also, securing a victory with a margin of over 20,000 votes.

In the Rajasthan elections of 2018, the voter turnout in Barmer was 79.74 per cent. In the previous election of 2013, the voter participation rate was almost similar at 78.8 per cent, while in the 2008 election, it stood at 65.9 per cent.
