BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who recently passed on communal slurs against BSP MP Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha during the special session of Parliament, has been appointed as the party’s election in-charge of the Tonk constituency in Rajasthan on Wednesday. The decision came amid speculation that Congress leader Sachin Pilot would be contesting from the same seat in the upcoming assembly elections.

Bidhuri, a Lok Sabha member from South Delhi, started campaigning in the state after taking charge of Tonk. He met with BJP state president CP Joshi and discussed the election strategy and the organisational work. He also attended a coordination meeting of District Tonk and took information about the programs of Seva Week and other events of the party in the poll-bound state of Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in or before November of this year to elect representatives for the 200-member house. Tonk is a stronghold of Pilot, who won the seat in 2018 by defeating BJP’s Yoonus Khan.

Bidhuri had sparked a huge controversy after he called Ali a “traitor” and a “terrorist” and accused him of being involved in anti-national activities during a discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 mission in the Lok Sabha. His comments were expunged after they drew outrage from the opposition parties, who urged the Speaker to take action against him.

Earlier, BJP had issued a show cause notice to Bidhuri over his remarks but there was no condemnation of Bidhuri's remark by the ruling party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
