Chittorgarh Assembly Election 2023: Can Congress Surprise Rival BJP In Their Stronghold?

Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: The elections to the 200 Assembly constituencies in Rajasthan are scheduled to be held on November 25, 2023. The counting and results will be announced on December 3.

The Chittorgarh constituency is one among the 200 Assembly constituencies in Rajasthan and falls under the Chittorgarh district. The Chittorgarh Assembly segment is one of the eight assembly segments in the Chittorgarh district and falls in the South region of Rajasthan. Notably, Chittorgarh is classified as a rural constituency.

The total electorate encompassing the Chittorgarh constituency comprises 2,46,808  eligible voters. This count is composed of 1,24,787 male voters and 1,22,021 female voters, as per the Election Commission's data in 2018. 

Chittorgarh Elections 2018 and 2013

In the 2018 Chittorgarh election, BJP candidate Chandrabhan Singh Aakya retained the seat for the second consecutive time by a whopping margin of nearly 23,894 votes defeating INC' Surendra Singh Jadawat who grabbed around 82,669 votes. Singh grabbed around 1,06,563  votes with a vote percentage of 53.41 per cent.

In the 2013 election, BJP's Chandrabhan Singh (Akya) emerged victorious by a margin of  11,850 votes. Chandrabhan managed to secure the support of 49.45 per cent of the total votes counted defeating INC' Surendra Singh who got 42.59 per cent of votes of the total turnout. INC' Surendra Singh had previously clinched this seat in the 2008 Assembly elections, securing a victory with a margin of around 11,551 votes.

In the Rajasthan elections of 2018, the voter turnout in Chittorgarh reached a commendable 79.56 per cent. In the previous election of 2013, the voter participation rate was slightly higher at 81.35 per cent, while in the 2008 election, it stood at 73.5 per cent.
