Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: Rajasthan is set to go to the polls to elect representatives for its 200-seat Legislative Assembly. Polling for the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly election will be held in a single phase on November 25. The counting of votes will commence on December 3 and official results are expected to be declared by December 5, as per the Election Commission.
Chomu Assembly Election 2023
Chomu is one of the 200 Assembly constituencies of Rajasthan. It falls in Jaipur district and is currently represented by BJP's Ramlal Sharma in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. The Congress party has fielded Shikha Barala from Chomu for the upcoming Assembly election, while the BJP has chosen Sharma, who is currently serving his second straight term as Chomu's MLA, as its candidate.
Chomu Assembly Election 2018
In the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election, Sharma retained his place in the Rajasthan Assembly as Chomu's MLA by defeating a fray of candidates led by his closest competitor, Congress leader Bhagwan Sahai Saini. Sharma got 70,183 as against Saini's 68,895 votes. The margin between them stood at just 1,288 votes.
The Chomu Assembly constituency in 2018 recorded a voter turnout of 84.23%, easily surpassing the statewide average turnout of 74.72%. The polling day saw 1,84,926 people cast their votes on EVMs in Chomu. Out of all the eligible voters who participated in polling that year, 89,340 were women, while 95,586 were men.
In 2013, Chomu's electorate had chosen Sharma, the BJP's candidate, as their Legislative Assembly representative over the then-incumbent MLA, Congress leader Bhagwan Sahay Saini, who emerged as the runner-up. Sharma defeated Saini by a whopping margin of 44,473 votes. The difference in their tallies translated to 29.24% of the total valid votes polled.
