Telangana Assembly Election 2023: The Telangana Assembly Elections were held on November 30. The counting for the votes is underway and the results for all the 119 seats will be announced today. The Charminar Assembly seat is one of 119 assembly constituencies and is part of the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. It falls in Hyderabad district and Greater Hyderabad region. It is categorised as an urban seat.
The Charminar constituency plays an important role for All India Majlis-e-ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) as the party has secured two terms from here in 2018 and 2014. An AIMIM candidate Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the current sitting MLA from Charminar.
In the 2023 Telangana assembly elections, Mir Zulfeqar Ali was fielded by the AIMIM, who is contesting against BJP's Megha Rani Agarwal as its candidate. Mohammed Mujeebullah Shareef is in the fray from Congress and BRS fielded Mohammed Salauddin Lodhi.
In the Charminar seat, there are 2,00,427 registered voters including 1,06,352 men, 94,029 women and 46 others. In the 2018 Telangana elections, Charminar recorded a voter turnout of 50.32 per cent. In 2014 the turnout was 56.20 per cent.
Charminar Assembly Election 2018
In the 2018 Assembly election, AIMIM fielded Mumtaz Ahmed Khan whereas Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a ticket to T Uma Mahendra. The Indian National Congress (INC) fielded Mohd Ghouse while Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which officially changed to BRS in 2022, chose Mohammed Salahuddin Lodhi. In 2018, the Charminar constituency was won by the AIMIM candidate against BJP with a margin of 32,586 votes.
Charminar Assembly Election 2014
In the 2014 Assembly election, Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, who fought the election on an AIMIM ticket, won the Charminar seat by defeating Telugu Desam Party (BJP) candidate MA Basith with a margin of 36,615 votes while TRS candidate Mir Inayath Ali Baqri secured the third runner up with 8,275 votes.
