YSR Telangana Party chief YS Sharmila Reddy on Thursday announced her party’s decision to contest all the 119 Assembly seats in Telangana in the forthcoming elections, putting an end to all specualtion about a YSRTP-Congress alliance or merger.
The Assembly elections will be held in Telangana on November 30 to elect all 119 members of the state’s Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes will begin on December 3.

While speaking at a party meeting, Sharmila said that she had waited for four months for a response from the Congress leadership on her proposal to merge her party or work with the grand old party.
She further stated tha the YSRTP decided to field candidates in all constituencies of the state as therte was no response from the Congress.
“We wanted to go along with Congress party to ensure that the anti-incumbency vote does not split. If the anti-incumbency vote splits it will ultimately benefit Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. But it (association with Congress) did not happen. Now, blame is not on us (If the anti-incumbency vote splits),” Sharmila was quoted as saying by PTI.
Sharmila announced that her party will contest from all 119 constituencies and added that she will contest the polls from the Palair constituency. However, she also mentioned that her party demanded that she contest from one more constituency.

She also said that her husband Anil Kumar and mother Vijayamma might also contest the upcoming polls as there is a demand from the party cadre.
The YSRTP chief earlier said that her discussions with Congress on ‘working together or a possible merger’, have come to a final stage.
She reportedly gave October 1 deadline to Congress to clear its stand on the possible merger. Sharmila recently met fomer Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the national capital.
Sharmila, daughter of former Congress chief minister, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, started the YSRTP in 2021. YSRTP believes that it has a strong presence on the ground and can compete with K Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
