Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. This recognition has sparked a wave of excitement and pride among the film’s team and supporters. Aamir Khan expressed his happiness, stating, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, media, and the entire film fraternity for their love and support. Thanks to the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, as well as our partners, Jio and Netflix, for making this possible. Here’s hoping Laapataa Ladies wins the hearts of the Academy.”
Director Kiran Rao echoed this sentiment, sharing her hope that the film will inspire conversations across borders. “Cinema transcends all boundaries and kickstarts discussions. I am thankful to the selection committee and everyone who believed in our vision. Working with such passionate people has been a privilege,” she said in a conversation with Hindustan Times.
The film's cast also shared their excitement over the selection. As per Hindustan Times, Nitanshi Goel, who plays Phool Kumari, expressed her gratitude, highlighting the film’s emotional resonance: “I feel truly grateful to the audience and Kiran ma’am. This has to be a beautiful dream; we all gave our everything to the film. I understood that the film’s emotional core will resonate with international audiences.”

Ravi Kishan, portraying police inspector Shyam Manohar, shared his elation while speaking to Hindustan Times: “Main bauhaut zyaada khush hoon. I am sure this film will win the Oscar. It is about India and its villages, which form 80 per cent of our population. It is totally deserving. I had said yes to the film only because of Kiran Rao.”
Sparsh Shrivastava, who plays Deepak, described the news as a surprise that left him "thrilled." In a conversation with India Today, he recounted how his phone exploded with congratulatory messages after the announcement, saying, “What’s going on? Then my casting director called and said, ‘Brother, we’re headed to the Oscars!’ My immediate reaction was, ‘What the hell!’”
Chhaya Kadam, who plays Manju Mai, shared how her role has garnered recognition even abroad. “They call me Manju Mai now! For an artist, there is no greater joy than knowing that our film is going to the Oscars,” she said in a conversation with Hindustan Times.
