About Attam 

The 2023 Malayalam-language thriller film, Aattam, was written and directed by Anand Ekarshi and produced by Ajith Joy under Joy Movie Productions. The film garnered significant recognition, winning the Grand Jury Award at the 2023 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, and was selected as the opening feature film at the 54th International Film Festival of India in Goa. Additionally, Aattam took home the prestigious Best Feature Film award at the 70th National Film Awards.

Filmmaker Ekarshi noted that the theme of sexual harassment in her film, where an actress accuses a movie star in a theatre group, is a universal and relatable issue that many women face. Despite a lukewarm box office response, the film gained significant traction and viewership on OTT platforms, underscoring the relevance and importance of the topic.

Kolkata Rape and Murder Case

On August 9, a devastating incident unfolded at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a post-graduate trainee doctor was tragically found dead in a seminar hall, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation. In a powerful display of solidarity, doctors from across the nation continued to stage protests on Saturday, demanding swift justice for the victim, who was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered. 

The protests, which began on Wednesday, were held in major cities such as Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, with demonstrators holding poignant placards that read "Justice needs to be served," "No duty without security," and "Justice delayed is Justice denied," emphasising the urgency and gravity of the situation. The collective voice of the medical fraternity echoed through the streets, seeking accountability and action from authorities to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice and that measures are taken to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future.
