Fahadh Faasil, known for his recent appearance in 'Aavesham', openly acknowledged his smoking habit while discussing the reception of 'Dhoomam'. The actor addressed that his previous movie didn't resonate with audiences due to its concept. He also clarified that 'Dhoomam' did not aim to endorse smoking.
Now, elaborating on the reasons behind the underwhelming performance of the film directed by Kannada filmmaker Pawan Kumar, which hit theaters in 2023, Fahadh Faasil told Onmanorama, "Some things are not meant to be made into cinema. They are beyond people's understanding. These stories and concepts may sound good when you hear it and seem like a good cinematic opportunity, but they don't work when you try to make it into his movie."
Fahadh also addressed concerns about the abovementioned movie being perceived as promoting smoking. "I am a smoker myself, so I am not someone to tell people not to smoke. The intention was to make people aware of the existing system, where a tobacco company is owned by 70 per cent by the Life Insurance Corporation," he explained.
"I was surprised with the system. These same companies change prices, launch substitutes and sell cheaper stuff. But the story misfired," he added. Penned and helmed by Pawan Kumar, 'Dhoomam' also stars Aparna Balamurali and Roshan Mathew in pivotal roles. The film hit theaters on June 23, 2023. However, it failed to make a mark at the box office despite its association with Hombale Films.
