Filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala, who had been reported missing post the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, is confirmed to have died. According to police officials, it was confirmed after the DNA tests matched his identification. A plane crash occurred on June 12 when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flight AI171, crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar area shortly after takeoff. Investigations revealed filmmaker Jirawala was passing through the area on his two-wheeler when the crash happened. A DNA test confirmed his death in the incident.

To confirm Jirawala's death, police gathered evidence, including CCTV footage of the area and his burnt scooter, as his family struggled to accept the news.

Jaipalsinh Rathore, joint commissioner of police, Sector 2, said, "Jirawala's family took his body on Friday after the DNA test confirmed his identity. His scooter, which was destroyed in the fire, was also recovered from near the crash site. The chassis and engine number also matched with the registration documents of the scooter."

On June 12, 2025, Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from runway 23 of the airport and crashed in a medical student's hostel. The plane was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian. It tragically fell of the sky after reaching 425 feet. Captain Sumeet issued the Mayday call, but everything burnt into ashes before any action could be taken.

The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kunder.
