Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai marked their 16th wedding anniversary on April 20. Over the years, they have gone from being close friends to falling in love while shooting for Guru and eventually marrying each other. The couple is also happy parents to their 11-year-old daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. To celebrate this special occasion, they shared a romantic picture on Instagram to express their love for one another.

Taking to Instagram, both Aishwarya and Abhishek posted a picture of themselves with the caption "Sweet 16". In the adorable picture, Abhishek is seen holding Aishwarya close while the couple smiles at the camera. Both donned white outfits in the picture.

Reacting to the post, one fan commented, “Very sweet couple love you bachan family,” while another added, “Super jodi ..... happy anniversary.” A third remarked, “God bless,” while a fourth wrote, “Happy anniversary to both of you.......with loads of love n blessings.”

Abhishek and Aishwarya first met during a photo shoot for their debut film, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke, which was later released in 2000. In an interview, Abhishek once revealed that he had anticipated Aishwarya to act like a demanding celebrity. But the former Miss World had pleasantly surprised him with her easy-going personality.

Even though they hit it off well, they remained friends after the film's release. The duo worked together again in the 2003 film, Kuch Naa Kaho, but their romantic feelings for each other did not emerge until the filming of Umrao Jaan in 2005-2006.

Abhishek had travelled to New York City to film a movie in 2007. While staying in the city, he thought of getting married to Aishwarya while sitting on the balcony of his hotel room. Therefore, he chose to propose to Aishwarya on that very balcony.

Abhishek and Aishwarya then tied the knot on April 20, 2007, as per Hindu customs. The wedding ceremony took place at Amitabh Bachchan's residence, Prateeksha, located in Mumbai’s Juhu. On November 16, 2011, the couple was blessed with a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan.
