Maddock Films recently unveiled its upcoming slate, announcing that Stree 3, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is set to hit theatres on August 13, 2027. Adding to the excitement, Akshay Kumar has been confirmed to reprise his role in the much-anticipated third installment of the horror-comedy franchise.
Akshay Kumar was first introduced to the Stree universe in Stree 2, which became a box office blockbuster in 2024. His character, a descendant of Chandra Bhan—the infamous patriarch of Chanderi who murdered Stree and her husband—made a surprise cameo that left fans wanting more.
In Stree 2, Akshay’s character is found in a mental asylum in Bhopal by Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and his gang. Sporting a blonde wig and seated in a wheelchair, he hilariously believes himself to be Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, even asking for updates on the Taj Mahal. His eccentric portrayal, complete with riddles and playful antics, added a unique charm to the film. The ending hinted at his character’s evolution into a larger supervillain role in the next installment.

During the trailer launch of his upcoming film Sky Force, Akshay was asked about his involvement in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe. He playfully responded, “What can I say? Dinesh and Jyoti (Deshpande) will have to decide that. They’re the ones to pump in the money.”
Dropping a subtle hint, Akshay added, “Aur Amar Kaushik ko direct karna hai,” referencing Amar Kaushik, the director of Stree 2.
Producer Dinesh Vijan officially confirmed Akshay’s return, humorously referring to him as the “Thanos” of Maddock’s horror-comedy universe. This comparison suggests that Akshay’s character will be pivotal, possibly as a formidable antagonist tying together the franchise’s storyline. With Amar Kaushik back as the director, Stree 3 promises to deliver a perfect blend of horror and comedy. Fans can look forward to Akshay Kumar’s character playing a much larger role, potentially becoming the central figure driving the plot.
