Ameen Sayani Death News: Ameen Sayani, a radio announcer known for his show 'Binaca Geetmala' died on February 20 at the age of 91. Sayani's death was confirmed by his son Rajil Sayani to Indian Express. Sayani died in Mumbai following a heart attack. His funeral is scheduled to take place on February 22 as the family awaits the arrival of some relatives.
Rajil Sayani told Indian Express, "The doctors at the hospital attended to him but couldn’t save him and he was declared dead". He mentioned that his father and radio presenter suffered a heart attack on the night of February 20 (Tuesday) after which he was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital, Mumbai. Binaca Geetmala was a well-liked radio show that had a large audience. The show would play the top songs of Hindi Cinema at the time, which drew in many movie enthusiasts, young people, and others who wanted to enjoy some entertainment in a time before smartphones.
Ameen Sayani presented the popular show Binaca Geetmala for more than four decades, starting in 1952. The show was initially aired on Radio Ceylon and later on Vividh Bharati (AIR). Ameen Sayani has been involved in producing, compiling, or speaking on more than 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 spots/jingles since 1951. He has also appeared in various movies over the years, including Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer, and Qatl, where he played the role of an announcer in some events.
Numerous individuals have taken to social media to express their condolences for Ameen Sayani, who played a significant role in popularizing All India Radio in India. One ardent fan tweeted, "Binaca Geetmala will always remain ageless. We are grateful for the delightful music and cherished memories. May Ameen Sayani Saab rest in peace," while another wrote, "I have very fond memories of listening to Binaca Geetmala during my childhood. Ameen Sayani was an icon during that era. May he rest in peace."
Legends never die and he had the ultimate voice and style of presentation. Radio won't be able to detach itself from that golden era.
