Anurag Kashyap, who has been enjoying working in the South film industry, stated that Bollywood has become toxic and mentioned that they are chasing only big numbers at the box office. He further claimed that due to this, the room for creative space has gone in the Hindi film industry. A source told The Hindu, Anurag Kashyap has likely relocated to Bengaluru and he is keen on working in the South Indian film industry. Here is what he said about Bollywood. He also confirmed that he has left the city of dreams and said, “I’ve left Mumbai.”

In an interview with the same portal, “I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone.”

Earlier, in an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag said “I envy them (South filmmakers). Because now, it's difficult for me to go out and experiment. Because now, it comes at a cost, which makes my producers think about profit. They're like, 'Where are my margins? I'm losing money.' I'm like, 'You don't want to make this movie? Don't make this movie.' But I just cannot. Because right from the beginning, before the film starts, it becomes about 'how do we sell it?' So the joy of filmmaking is sucked out. That's why I want to move out. Literally, next year, I'm moving out of Mumbai.”

Anurag Kashyap was last seen as an actor in the 2024 Malayalam movie Rifle Club. The movie gave wide recognition as an actor. In the same year, he was also seen playing the main antagonist in Vijay Sethupathi starrer Tamil movie Maharaja. He will be next seen in the bilingual movie Dacoit (which is shot in Telugu and Hindi). It features Mrunal Thakur and Adivi Sesh in the lead roles.
