Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra both marked their Bollywood debut with the 2012 romantic thriller Ishaqzaade. The film, written and directed by Habib Faisal, gained critical acclaim and performed well at the box office. However, not many know that Arjun was initially hesitant about Parineeti's casting for a rather amusing reason.

In a recent conversation with Mashable India, Arjun Kapoor shared his reservations about working with Parineeti during the film's early days. He recounted a moment on set when Parineeti responded to his joke with the Gen-Z slang "LOL" instead of actually laughing. “I said, ‘Can you just laugh? It’s not a chat,’” Arjun explained, adding that he found her habit of speaking in emojis quite irritating. This led him to think she wasn’t taking her role seriously. He humorously remarked, “I waited six months for Zoya [Parineeti’s character] to arrive, and when she did, she was all ‘LOL LOL.’ I thought, ‘My career is over. This girl is not interested.’”

Despite his initial doubts, Ishaqzaade turned out to be a game-changer for both actors. Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, the movie told the gripping tale of two feuding families and a love story that defied the odds. Apart from Arjun and Parineeti's strong performances, the film featured talented actors like Gauahar Khan and Shashank Khaitan in key roles.

The movie earned widespread praise, with critics especially appreciating Parineeti Chopra’s portrayal of Zoya. Her performance not only bagged her a nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards but also won her a National Film Award – Special Mention at the 60th National Film Awards. Currently, Arjun Kapoor is riding high on the success of Singham Again, where he played a villain, while Parineeti Chopra was last seen in Chamkila, sharing the screen with Diljit Dosanjh.
