Babil Khan, who was recently seen in the Zee5 original film Logout, talked about the harsh reality of online trolling. Babil, son of late actor Irrfan Khan and writer Sutapa Sikdar, stated that he was accused of exploiting his father’s legacy to launch his acting career. Irrfan passed away at the age of 53 in April 2020 after suffering from a prolonged disease, neuroendocrine cancer. After his demise, all the limelight was shifted to Babil, which made him uncomfortable in the beginning.
In a recent interview with Lallantop, Babil Khan said, “When Baba passed away, the limelight suddenly shifted on me. I wasn’t ready for that. But there was one moment that’s stayed with me. When Baba’s body was being taken from the hospital to the funeral, the streets were filled with fans, even during COVID. Nobody cared about the risk. They just wanted to say goodbye. They were crying. It felt so real.”
He added, “Some people said I was using my father’s death to launch my acting career. If that were true, I wouldn’t still be giving auditions today. I was sharing love because we were flooded with it from everyone. I had to honour that.”
During the promotions of Logout, Babil also talked about facing online criticism. He said, “I was there. It impacted me at the moment, but because the trolling was directed at me, I was able to recover quickly. The only way to get over it is to feel it and not attempt to avoid it. Do not say, ‘I’m not impacted by anything.’ You have to be like, Yes, I am affected by this. Let’s investigate why.”
Babil Khan made his acting debut with Anvita Dutt’s psychological drama movie Qala alongside Tripti Dimri. It gave him immense popularity. He then featured in movies and shows such as Friday Night Plan and The Railway Men.
