Munjya (TV, OTT)
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film stars Abhay Verma, Sharvari, Mona Singh, and Sathyaraj. Produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, it is the third installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, drawing inspiration from Indian folklore and mythology. In 1952, Gotya, a young Brahmin, transforms into a vengeful spirit named Munjya after a failed attempt to poison his beloved Munni. Munjya's spirit becomes bound to a peepal tree in Konkan. Decades later, Bittu, a timid hairdresser plagued by recurring nightmares about the tree, becomes possessed by Munjya upon visiting it. Munjya then sets his sights on Bittu's friend Bela, planning to marry and sacrifice her. With the help of his friend Spielberg and an exorcist, Bittu manages to defeat Munjya by burning the tree. However, hints of Munjya's lingering presence suggest that he might still be around.
Tumbbad (Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and co-directed by Adesh Prasad. The film stars Sohum Shah, who plays the lead role of Hastar, alongside Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date. Set in the 1910s and 1940s Maharashtra, the film follows the story of Hastar, a man who becomes obsessed with finding a hidden treasure in the village of Tumbbad. The treasure is guarded by the ancient, malevolent deity Hastar, a being who was cursed and imprisoned in a pit by his own creator. As Hastar delves deeper into the curse and the dark lore surrounding it, he encounters disturbing supernatural forces and uncovers the sinister secrets of Tumbbad.
Lal Kaptaan (Netflix)
Directed by Navdeep Singh, the film stars Saif Ali Khan and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles, alongside Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Manav Vij. Set during the 17th century, the film follows the story of Gossain, played by Saif Ali Khan, a ruthless and skilled bounty hunter on a mission to capture his nemesis, Rahmat Khan, portrayed by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of the Mughal Empire, delving into themes of revenge, honour, and the brutal realities of the era.
The House Next Door (Amazon Prime Video)
The Tamil-language horror film directed by Milind Rau, stars Siddharth, Andrea Jeremiah, and Atul Kulkarni in key roles. The film revolves around a young couple, Arjun (Siddharth) and Aparna (Andrea Jeremiah), who move into a new house with their young daughter. Their peaceful life is disrupted when they discover unsettling events occurring in the neighboring house. The film's narrative explores themes of supernatural disturbances and the impact of past traumas on the present.
The house next door, once inhabited by a mysterious woman and her daughter, is the focal point of the horror elements in the film. As the story unfolds, Arjun and Aparna confront a series of eerie occurrences and uncover dark secrets related to the previous occupants of the house.
Stree 2 (Theater)
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 features a star-studded cast including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. This film is the fifth entry in the Maddock Supernatural Universe and follows the 2018 hit Stree. The movie, shot mainly in Chanderi and Bihar, features music by Sachin–Jigar, a score by Justin Varghese, and cinematography by Jishnu Bhattacharjee, with editing done by Hemanti Sarkar. The plot continues from the first film, with the small town of Chanderi now plagued by a headless creature named Sarkata who is abducting women.
Ghost Stories (Netflix)
The horror anthology film comprising four distinct segments directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, and Anurag Kashyap.
