The Broken News S2 (ZEE5)

In the second season of the critically acclaimed series The Broken News, the cutthroat world of news broadcasting is examined with an unflinching lens. Building upon the first season's exploration of the clash between traditional journalism and the modern era's pursuit of ratings and sensationalism, season two delves deeper into media manipulation and corporate interests. Sonali Bendre's character, Ameena Qureshi, the editor-in-chief of Awaaz Bharti, finds herself in a high-stakes battle to free her jailed colleague, Radha Bhargava (Shriya Pilgaonkar), from the clutches of the unscrupulous Deepankar Sanyal (Jaideep Ahlawat) of the rival right-wing channel Josh 24x7.

Kahaani (Jio Cinema)

Vidya Balan delivers a tour de force performance in the critically acclaimed thriller 'Kahaani,' showcasing the tenacity and determination required of investigative journalists. In the film, Balan portrays Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman who arrives in the chaotic city of Kolkata from London, searching for her mysteriously missing husband, Arnab. With its many gripping twists and turns, 'Kahaani' keeps viewers on the edge of their seats while poignantly highlighting the essential role of journalism in uncovering the truth, no matter how deeply buried it may be.

Rann (Disney + Hotstar)

In Ram Gopal Varma's "Rann," the media industry's relentless pursuit of ratings and the decline of ethical standards are starkly portrayed. Amitabh Bachchan shines as Vijay Malik, the principled head of a struggling news channel dedicated to maintaining integrity amidst fierce competition from sensationalist outlets. However, Vijay's ambitious son Jai (Sudeep) devises a devious scheme to fabricate a shocking news story to boost ratings, compromising the channel's credibility. As the father-son duo clash, "Rann" underscores the immense pressure on modern journalism to uphold a free and independent press amidst corporate greed and political manipulation.

Bhakshak (Netflix)

In the gritty drama 'Bhakshak,' independent TV reporter Vaishali Singh (Bhumi Pednekar) and her lone colleague Bhaskar (Sanjay Mishra) courageously confront a human trafficking racket operating out of a shelter home for orphaned girls in Bihar. Their small media house strives to rescue the minor victims from the powerful Bansi Sahu (Aditya Srivastava), exposing the harrowing exploitation occurring under the guise of care. However, their pursuit of truth is met with intimidation, threats, and a corrupt system seemingly designed to silence those who dare to challenge the status quo. As Vaishali and Bhaskar defy societal pressure to 'mind their own business,' 'Bhakshak' poignantly questions whether two ordinary people can withstand the forces working to bury injustice, shedding light on the grave personal risks undertaken by journalists committed to holding authority accountable.

Noor (Amazon Prime Video)

In the relatable comedy 'Noor,' Sonakshi Sinha excels as the titular character, an aspiring journalist eager to move beyond fluff pieces and dive into hard-hitting investigative stories. However, Noor's ambitions are constantly tested by her personal life, which includes a faltering love life, a stagnant career, and struggles with self-image and body insecurities. Amidst this charming chaos, Noor stumbles upon a substantial investigative story, giving her the chance to prove her journalistic skills while navigating the familiar challenges of modern womanhood. Sinha's endearing and grounded performance makes "Noor" a refreshingly authentic portrayal of a young woman striving to make her mark in the competitive world of journalism while managing the messiness of her imperfect life.
