Border 2 Real Story: Border 2, which is scheduled to open in theaters on January 23, 2026, revives the legacy of one of the most famous military dramas in Indian film. The film, which was directed by Anurag Singh, revisits the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict and uses moving real-life tales to honor the unparalleled bravery of India's Army, Navy, and Air Force. Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty make together an impressive ensemble that promises size, emotion, and stirring patriotism—all while remaining grounded in history.
Border 2 will reportedly share little-known tales of real-life heroes during the 1971 Indo-Pak Operation Chengiz. Ahan Shetty portrays a naval officer, Diljit Dosanjh is an Air Force officer, while Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan's characters are members of the armed forces.
What Is Operation Chengiz?
The Pakistani Air Force's (PAF) preemptive strikes on the Indian Air Force's (IAF) advanced airbases and radar systems on the evening of December 3, 1971, were code-named Operation Chengiz Khan. It signaled the official start of the Indo-Pakistani War. In addition to artillery strikes on Indian forces in Kashmir, the operation targeted eleven Indian airfields. aviation defense radars at Amritsar and Faridkot as well as Indian aviation bases in Amritsar, Ambala, Agra, Awantipur, Bikaner, Halwara, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pathankot, Bhuj, Srinagar and Uttarlai were the targets.
According to reports, Pakistan was only able to destroy a radar post and crater the runways at Amritsar without causing any significant damage to the IAF airfields. Four PAF planes were reportedly lost in the raid. The Indian Air Force retaliated with huge retaliation airstrikes the following morning after then-Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi claimed that the airstrikes were a declaration of war against India.
India's full-scale invasion of East Pakistan, the liberation of Bangladesh, and the establishment of a new country marked the end of the war.

Who Plays Whom In Border 2?
Sunny Deol reappears as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler of the 6 Sikh Regiment, reviving the spirit of Border. Deol, the lone actor from the 1997 masterpiece, is the epitome of authority, tenacity, and unadulterated fearlessness.
Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, PVC, of the Three Grenadiers, is played by Varun Dhawan. With a performance motivated by discipline, tactical acumen, and unwavering resolve, Varun ventures into unfamiliar ground as a real-life combat hero.
Diljit Dosanjh embodies the bravery of the Indian Air Force's No. 18 Squadron as Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC. His persona, which combines warmth, courage, and ultimate sacrifice, tells the story of the fabled pilot who defended the Srinagar air station by himself.
Ahan Shetty returns after a four-year absence to play Lt. Cdr. M. S. Rawat from INS Khukri, highlighting the Navy's vital role in the conflict. Ahan's casting creates a significant generational link his father Suniel Shetty was a part of the first Border.

Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Mona Singh play the courageous partners in the war drama, directed by Anurag Singh. The fighting soldiers receive emotional support from these women. Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty also have brief cameos in the movie. These players provide a connection between the 1997 classic and the current narrative. This epic military drama is completed by the ensemble cast.
