BTS ARMYs (the Kpop group's fandom name) are currently in an uproar over a fanfiction titled Oceans, penned by Emma Emonds (known as Akimasaaa on Wattpad). This work has drawn significant backlash for its portrayal of BTS member Jimin, leading fans to accuse the author of vilifying him within the narrative.

Emonds' fanfiction primarily revolves around the 'Taekook' ship, a popular pairing of BTS members V (Taehyung) and Jungkook. However, many fans have expressed their discomfort with the way Jimin is depicted in the story, feeling that he is used as an antagonist to further the plot. This portrayal has sparked concern and anger among ARMYs, who argue that it promotes unnecessary hate toward Jimin.

In response to the growing criticism, Emonds took to social media to defend her work, claiming to have removed the Wattpad version of Oceans upon request from fans. She asked to be left alone amid the controversy. However, ARMYs were not satisfied with this response. They pointed out that Emonds is still promoting a book version of Oceans, claiming it “isn’t about BTS anymore.” In this new version, she has changed the character names but has continued to use BTS imagery for promotion.

Despite her assertions, Emonds has been seen tagging “Taekook” in a TikTok promoting the book, which further infuriated fans. Many ARMYs took to social media to express their frustration, stating that the characterizations in her work continue to depict Jimin as a bully and harasser, even with the names altered.

An ARMY tweeted: “A French Taekooker has published a book where is depicted as a bully & harasser. She changed the names in the book but they’re still being promoted with their real names on platforms like Insta. I’m literally speechless.”

Fans have been actively reporting Emonds for allegedly capitalizing on BTS' image while promoting her story, which they believe misrepresents Jimin’s character. This situation has ignited a larger conversation about the responsibilities of fanfiction authors and their impact on real individuals, especially in the context of public figures.
