BTS Jungkook and EXO Baekhyun: In a dramatic turn of events, a whistleblower identifying as a HYBE employee leaked pages from the confidential HYBE Weekly Music Industry Trend Report on November 1, 2024. This report, sent to key executives back in July 2023, has caused quite a stir by exposing the company's internal evaluations of their major acts, including BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK and emerging groups like NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM.

The leaked documents shed light on the escalating tensions between the fandoms of BTS, EXO and BLACKPINK. It detailed how these rivalries have intensified, particularly in the context of brand partnerships and dating rumours. For example, BLACKPINK’s Lisa has faced scrutiny following her performance at the Crazy Horse Show in Paris, which some fans believe could tarnish the group's image.

Additionally, the report highlighted internal strife within EXO's fanbase, focusing on Baekhyun and D.O. As Baekhyun attempts to rebuild support amidst ongoing conflicts, these tensions reportedly impede EXO's promotional efforts, especially as members pursue solo careers.

One particularly contentious part of the leak compared EXO's Baekhyun to BTS' Jungkook, igniting heated debates among fans. The report claimed Baekhyun's casual 7 AM live broadcast was desperate in contrast to Jungkook's more polished morning session. This comparison bewildered fans, many of whom felt it was unnecessary and undermined Baekhyun's relaxed approach to engaging with followers.

The report also critiqued several newer girl groups, including VIVIZ and NMIXX, alongside observations about NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM. VIVIZ, launched in February 2022, was said to struggle with the "pretty" image expected by fans, while NMIXX faced accusations of not carving out their unique identity amidst comparisons to TWICE.

Interestingly, HYBE's plans for NewJeans were outlined as a "mutually helpful competitor" to LE SSERAFIM, indicating a strategic move to capitalize on the rising popularity of girl groups in the industry. HYBE’s report didn’t shy away from assessing the challenges faced by established groups like MONSTA X, iKON, The Boyz and Stray Kids.

MONSTA X has maintained a loyal fanbase, particularly among older fans, due to their mature image, which has helped them stay relevant despite the loss of member Shownu to military enlistment. Conversely, iKON has experienced a decline in popularity post-B.I.'s departure, with recent comebacks failing to capture the market's attention.

The Boyz are navigating the balance between meeting international fan expectations and preserving their group identity. Their recent European tour reflected the high hopes fans had, particularly around inclusivity, although some members' reluctance to engage with certain themes may hinder broader appeal.

Stray Kids has carved out a distinct niche but faces critique regarding the disparity in dance skills among their members. The report highlighted a specific incident during a challenge with NiziU, indicating that the group might need to address performance gaps to maintain their status as top-tier idols.
