HYBE, the agency representing BTS, is currently facing backlash after a confidential internal document was leaked, exposing details about the agency's involvement with Sojang, a YouTube channel infamous for its defamation of Kpop idols, including some from HYBE itself. Fans were shocked to find out about HYBE’s alleged VIP membership with Sojang, reportedly to monitor industry content—even at the cost of BTS’ image, with Jungkook and V being previous targets of the platform’s malicious narratives. This recent controversy has fans wondering if BTS, especially Jungkook and V, should have left HYBE years ago, a sentiment spurred by a resurfaced interview with BTS member SUGA.
In the resurfaced interview, originally conducted around BTS's contract renewal in 2018, SUGA revealed a challenging time for the group, particularly for Jungkook and V, who were reportedly hesitant to renew their contracts with HYBE. He shared that he, along with RM and Jhope, had written the song Tear during that time and sent a heartfelt message to encourage their younger members. “That’s when Namjoon, Jhope, and I wrote the lyrics for Tear, and I sent a long message to you guys,” SUGA explained, referring to V and Jungkook.

V’s response in the interview highlighted the impact of SUGA’s words on him and Jungkook. “After we heard what you said, it gave us renewed strength and a more positive mindset,” V shared. “I never thought you’d be the one to say something like that, but when you did, it really touched us deeply and was so moving. It became a moment that helped us find more motivation.”
The resurfacing of this interview has led to considerable discussion among fans, with some expressing regret that the group didn't consider other management options. One user commented, “Although they were criticized at that time, it was later revealed that they didn’t even have access to lawyers. Now they should know better and leave to pursue the music they want.”
The community post that circulated the interview has already received over 95,000 views, with fans expressing concerns about BTS’s future under HYBE. With a major comeback planned for 2025, many fans are questioning whether BTS’s relationship with HYBE is beneficial, especially given the recent allegations against the agency.
For now, fans continue to show their unwavering support for BTS, hoping the group is able to navigate these turbulent times and focus on creating the music they’re passionate about, with or without HYBE’s involvement.
