BTS RM recently found himself at the centre of a social media storm after sharing a celebratory Instagram post about his solo album. The timing, however, couldn't have been worse, as it came just a day after fellow BTS member Suga, also known as Min Yoongi, was involved in a drunk driving incident. The backlash was swift, prompting RM to delete the post, but the controversy continues to make headlines.

On August 7, RM took to Instagram to celebrate the success of his solo album Right Place Wrong Person, which had just secured the #7 spot on “The Genius Community’s 25 Best Albums of 2024 So Far.” The post was a reshare from producer JNKRYD, who had initially shared the achievement.

However, the post was quickly met with criticism. Many fans and social media users accused RM of being insensitive for posting celebratory content while Suga’s scandal was still unfolding. "Why at this timing, of all times?" questioned one user. Others suggested that RM was downplaying the severity of Suga's situation. “How insensitive,” quipped another.

The controversy stems from an incident on August 6, when Suga, currently serving in the public sector as part of his military duties, was caught driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol. CCTV footage showed Suga falling while trying to park the scooter, and when a nearby police officer came to assist, they detected the smell of alcohol. Tests later confirmed that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit for driving, leading to his arrest. Suga has since issued a public apology, expressing regret for his actions.

While RM faced criticism from some, many fans rushed to his defence, arguing that he may not have been fully aware of the situation due to the restrictions of military service, which limits access to mobile devices. "He might not have known because he's in the military. He quickly deleted the post," one fan pointed out.

Others were more frustrated with the backlash itself, questioning why RM was being targeted when he was not involved in the incident. "Did RM do something wrong? Why are people reacting like this to him? It’s absurd,” commented another fan. "All the other members are diligently completing their military service or have already finished. If you want to criticize, direct it at the person who caused the incident," another supporter added.
