BTS SUGA, fourteen years ago, then a young and hopeful boy from Daegu, took a life-changing step. On November 7, 2010, he made the big move to Seoul to pursue his dream of becoming a Kpop artist. Today, ARMYs are celebrating this special anniversary by trending hashtags like “14 years with Yoongi” on social media, expressing their gratitude for his remarkable musical contributions and resilience.
Reflecting on his early days, Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS by Myeongseok Kang offers a glimpse into SUGA's first moments in Seoul. According to SUGA, “My parents dropped me off. There's a practice studio in the basement of Yujeong Restaurant near the Cheonggu Building. I stood there until Pdogg came out and took me inside. My parents told me later that I looked like I was being dragged off somewhere (laughs)." The book further mentions, "At just seventeen, SUGA was a bit young to leave home for the bustling city, but he knew that to achieve his dream of making it in music, he needed to be in Seoul. It was a big leap for a small-town boy with enormous ambition."

Before joining BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE), SUGA was already creating music under the name Gloss, even producing a track on the 2010 Gwangju uprising with his underground hip-hop crew, D-Town. At seventeen, he initially joined BigHit as a music producer. However, after training alongside RM and Jhope, he became one of BTS' core members. By 2013, he made his debut with the group and his unique rap style and ability to infuse deep emotions into his lyrics quickly gained recognition.
As BTS grew, so did SUGA’s musical influence. He contributed to many of the group’s songs, writing and producing hits that resonated with fans worldwide. In April 2023, he made his official solo debut under the name Agust D with his album D-DAY, featuring the powerful track Haegeum. However, fans had already gotten a taste of his solo artistry with earlier songs like Daechwita, First Love and Intro: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life. Today, fans continue to celebrate SUGA’s journey, from his tentative first steps in Seoul to becoming one of the most respected rappers in Kpop.
