Park Hyo Shin recently shared rare insights into his collaboration with BTS V, aka Kim Taehyung, on the song Winter Ahead. The track, which has topped global charts, including Billboard's fan-voted Kpop track of the year list, came about through a natural and spontaneous connection between the two artists.
During his appearance on the MBC radio show Kim Eana's Starry Night on January 6, 2025, Park revealed that he and V never initially planned to release music together. Their collaboration developed from their casual meetings and deep conversations about music. Park explained that despite their age difference, V's passion for music was clear, and the two would often talk about it whenever they met. "He has so many things to communicate about music; he has a lot to say about it," Park shared.
As their friendship grew, the idea of working together began to feel inevitable. Park mentioned that V had originally sought his guidance for his debut album Layover. However, as Park started composing melodies, their collaboration evolved, leading them to create Winter Ahead together. "After we got close, we thought, 'We are already close anyway, so why not?'" Park said.

The song, which debuted at number 15 on Spotify’s global chart and accumulated 5.5 million streams on its first day, is a massive hit. However, Park revealed that the version of Winter Ahead that was released is actually a guide track, not the final recorded version.

Park also shared a lighthearted story about filming the music video for Winter Ahead with V. He described the experience as surprisingly comfortable and relaxed. The two enjoyed real food and wine together, and Park humorously pointed out that the wine in the video switched from white to red not for artistic reasons but because they simply ran out of white wine. The dim lighting and casual atmosphere made the shoot feel more like a friendly gathering than a formal production.
Park mentioned that the video shoot took place just before V's military enlistment and he likely arrived at the set after getting his hair cut. Reflecting on the quick turnaround, Park said, "When V-ssi enlists, he can’t do anything, so in truth, I think this song is also a guide." He added that V was eager to get the video done before his enlistment, and they made it work quickly and comfortably.
