Following his massive success in Lovely Runner, Byeon Woo Seok is set to star in the highly anticipated drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince alongside singer-actress IU. While fans were eagerly expecting the drama to premiere in 2025, recent updates suggest that its release might be postponed to 2026.

Originally, Wife of a 21st Century Prince was expected to be part of MBC’s 2025 drama lineup. However, when MBC announced its schedule, the drama was missing from the list, leaving fans confused. Later, Kakao Entertainment revealed its 2025 production slate, confirming the drama's inclusion. Yet, an MBC representative clarified that while Wife of a 21st Century Prince is being prepared for a 2025 release, the exact schedule remains undecided. Now, reports indicate that the drama may get pushed to 2026 due to unforeseen circumstances.

Set in an alternate version of Korea where a constitutional monarchy exists in the 21st century, Wife of a 21st Century Prince delves into themes of social status and identity struggles. IU plays Sung Hee Joo, a fierce, competitive, and intelligent woman who belongs to a conglomerate family but is still considered a commoner. Despite her wealth and success, she faces societal challenges due to her lack of noble status.

Byeon Woo Seok takes on the role of Prince I An, a powerless son of the king whose only identity stems from his royal bloodline. The story follows the complex relationship between these two characters as they navigate societal expectations and their personal ambitions while forging an unexpected romance.

Byeon Woo Seok, who gained immense popularity in 2024 with Lovely Runner, confirmed his participation in Wife of a 21st Century Prince in December 2024. In a recent interview, he expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "As soon as I read the script, I immediately felt that I wanted to take on this project. I hope viewers will look forward to seeing a new side of me that I haven’t shown before. I’m personally very excited as well."

After his breakthrough role in Lovely Runner, Byeon has been hailed as one of the most promising actors in the Korean entertainment industry. His ability to portray youthful, heartfelt characters has been widely appreciated. Reflecting on his career, he shared in an interview with Elle Korea, "I believe that as long as you dream and take on challenges, even in that very moment, you are living your youth. It doesn’t have to be something grand; even the smallest things count. So, I think I’ll remain youthful for a long time."

The drama will be directed by Park Joon Hwa, known for hit Kdramas such as Alchemy of Souls, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Touch Your Heart and Love Your Enemy. His experience in crafting engaging romantic dramas raises expectations for Wife of a 21st-Century Prince.

Apart from this project, IU continues to make waves in both the acting and music industries, having starred in acclaimed series like Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, My Mister, and Hotel Del Luna. Byeon Woo Seok, on the other hand, has been enjoying his rise to stardom with Lovely Runner, which broke viewership records and won him several accolades.
